Based in Taunton, MA, the company operates in Massachusetts as United Liquors, Carolina Wine & Spirits, Classic Wine and Commonwealth Wine & Spirits, and in other New England states as Martignetti Companies of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine and Rhode Island Distributing Company through a joint venture. Vision Wine & Spirits, a wholly owned subsidiary of Martignetti Companies, sells and promotes the finest craft spirits through a nationwide network of distributors.
Martignetti Companies began as a family-owned grocery business in Boston’s North End. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Martignetti family received the first retail license for beverage alcohol in Massachusetts. Through the years, they grew their retail business to include a number of wine and spirits shops across the Boston metro area. In the 1970’s, they expanded the distribution and wholesale business, focusing on fine wines. In the ensuing years Martignetti Companies steadily grew its distribution businesses in New England through organic growth, supplier appointments and acquisitions. The portfolio has grown to encompass the broadest selection of fine wines and spirits in the marketplace, from unique artisanal producers to global leading suppliers.

2004 – Appointed exclusive spirits distributor in Maine
2005 – Expanded Norwood warehouse, totaling 425,000 sq/ft of temperature-controlled space
2006 – Acquired United Liquors and Braintree facilities, greatly expanding the company’s spirits and wine offerings and doubling warehouse space to 850,000 sq/ft of space
2008 – Formed partnership with the Mancini family - Rhode Island Distributing
2009 – Acquired Commonwealth Wine & Spirits, bringing the E&J Gallo portfolio and other select fine wines and spirits to the company
